Library Search (Primo NDE project)

Library Search (Primo NDE project)

Emory’s libraries are upgrading Library Search (the library catalog) with a new interface in 2026. This site provides information about the project, what to expect with our beta and production releases, and how you can provide feedback.

What’s happening?

We are migrating our library catalog - Library Search - and Articles+ to Primo NDE (Next Discovery Experience), a vendor managed discovery system. Currently we are using Blacklight (an open source system) for Library Search, and we are using Primo VE, an Ex Libris product, for Articles+ and some Library Search features.

Ex Libris released Primo NDE as their new discovery UI (user interface) in November. Compared to Primo VE, this is an improved interface that provides a cleaner, more intuitive experience focused on reducing user effort. Ex Libris has also made improvements to accessibility compliance and mobile responsiveness.

While the new interface will look and feel a little different, it will function similarly with some added enhancements:

  • Search for articles and books together – Search books, articles, journals, media, and more all at once with an “everything” search we don’t currently offer. However, you will still be able to search for articles and books separately if you prefer.

  • Browse by author, title, subject, or call number – Explore collections in new ways with browsing functionality.

  • Book cover images – See what books look like as you browse results.

  • Improved filtering – More intuitive ways to narrow results and discover relevant materials.

  • Enhanced research tools – Easier saving, exporting, and citation management to support your work.

We’ll roll out a beta (test) version in late spring so you can try it out and provide feedback before we make the full switch. Your input will help us to ensure the system meets the needs of our diverse research community.

Questions? We’ll share more information and how-to guides as we get closer to launch. In the meantime, reach out to PrimoNDEFeedback [at] emory [dot] edu with any questions.
