Repository Management Relationship: Collection Manager, Metadata Specialist

Demographics / User Characteristics

  • Library staff or student assistant
  • May work with Academic Department Program Mediator and/or Student Submitter to complete workflow
  • Supports repository ingest workflows such as ETD submissions, faculty scholarship submissions, or campus materials
  • Not a content creator
  • Familiar with repository ingest workflows and interfaces
  • Varied levels of familiarity with underlying repository architecture

Frequency and Type of Repository Deposit Use

  • Daily
  • Self-Deposit / Staff Deposit (for proxy work) 

General Motivators / Goals

  • Usher self-deposited materials through full deposit process
  • Augment scholarship available in repository and visible on faculty profiles
  • Ensure proper submission of material by submitters

Key Deposit Tasks

  • Move harvested content and metadata into deposit workflow
  • Perform proxy deposit for harvested publications
  • Edit or augment metadata of self-deposits in accordance with local standards
  • Evaluate self-deposits for copyright adherence
  • Route self-deposits to mediators
  • Approve self-deposits for ingest
  • Host workshops surrounding self-deposit and provide support to self-depositors

  • Campus shared data feeds
  • Guidance on local metadata entry standards
  • Access to local vocabulary terms and thesauri
  • Status and progress notifications for material being ingested
  • Verification of successful uploads and ingests
  • Audit trail / log of deposit activity in workflow

Type of Material Deposited

  • Textual information (from students/faculty - PDF, MS Office formats)
  • Still images, video, research data (from students/faculty) - regular and increasing
  • Research data (from students/faculty) - infrequent, but increase expected. Sometimes accompanying publication, sometimes standalone
  • Other/complex objects (from students/faculty) - rare, but increase anticipated
